Plywood quality grades
The quality grade of raw plywood is defined by type and quantity of visible defects, measured by EN 635-5. Grading conditions are in compliance or stricter in comparison with requirements set by the EN 635-2 Plywood, SFS 2413 and ISO 139.
The quality grade of filmfaced plywood is defined by type and quantity of visible defects.
* Plywood grade photos are made of a compilation of A5 samples
Plywood of WG grade without open defects (repaired with filler), for overlaying with non-transparent finishing material.

Birch plywood is Latvijas Finieris Group’s core business, where the company invests in the latest technologies, research, and innovations.
In the Chemical Product Development Laboratory, we focus on developing adhesive formulations for plywood and various types of plywood panel coatings.
Riga ECOlogical is a new Lignin-based, environmentally friendly green glue used in the production of Riga Wood birch plywood.
Iekārtu rūpnīca is part of the Latvijas Finieris Group. Its main areas of operation are machinery and metal processing, reali s ing the needs of the wood working industry. Iekārtu rūpnīca provides a full range of services, starting from design to manufacturing, installation and after-sales service.
The log sorting lines are suitable for logs of various lengths, diameters and wood species, with the possibility to customise solutions according to customer preferences. Sorting lines typically include an operator's room, electric cabinets, a hydraulic centre, sorting bins and by-product conveyors.
Iekārtu rūpnīca focuses on customised solutions for different types of handling equipment for the woodworking industry. Similar to log sorting lines, the log handling equipment can be designed and manufactured according to specific demands for log length, diameter and wood species. Log decks, chain conveyors and step feeders are just a few solutions to mention.
Side stream handling is an essential part of every woodworking production because most by-products are used for heating purposes or recycled for other needs. Iekārtu rūpnīca designs and develops equipment for heavy duty construction, like belt, screw and scraper conveyors, containers and container loading systems, and chip screens.
We are confident that there can be no wood waste in the birch plywood production process – each piece of wood is a valuable side stream that we responsibly recycle both locally at the Group’s facilities and at our partners’ factories.
That’s why, in both plywood production and wood side stream recycling, we focus on long-life products that help move away from fossil resources and maximise CO₂ storage.

WPC and other applications
Sawdust is generated during the sanding process of plywood sheets. In a refined form, they are used in the production of birch fibre and polypropylene composite (WPC) coating, known for its exceptionally high resistance to mechanical damage. This coating is utilised in the manufacturing of Riga Poliform birch plywood, widely used in the construction industry for the production of reusable concrete forms.
